WYC collaborated with the student producers for the Circuit Spring Art Party. The event was a huge success, both in terms of artistic curation and the amount of people coming to the event who had never been to the gallery. We worked with Cultivate Film Night to programme an evening of Skate films in the grand hall. Cultivate is a fantastic local film night that showcases films and documentaries often highlighting cult films, subcultures and socially concious content and over the years has built up a loyal following in Manchester with locals and students. For the event we wanted to profile Manchesters skate community and premiere a new film by local skate artist Keanu Robson and artwork from Leo Macdonald and Sarcus Nervar. With giant projections exhibited in the art garden, a live art battle, the music curators and Jason Singh, the event all linked thematically to the new Ben Rivers film installation focusing on telling stories. Our young evaluators had some fantastic creative evaluation tasks that included our famous thumb print map and origami letters and it was great to see over 250 skaters in the art gallery.
