Nottingham was the destination for a WYC trip to see a fellow Circuit groups youth festival. Collabor8 are Nottingham’s youth collective and we were keen to visit their festival, Affinity to see the fantastic programme they had produced. The gallery did feel like it had been completely taken over by young people, with decorations, costumes, music and activities everywhere. WYC particularly enjoyed the Sun Ra exhibition in a sunshine golden gallery space and also the FREE hotdogs!
We took part in a junk jewellrey workshop where we made items that included mini torches which we used to flash in the silent disco later that night. We saw poetry, heard some amazing acoustic acts and live bands and loved the evaluation which included a wooden facebook sculpture (writing your ‘likes’ into the tree) and a photo booth where an illustrator sketched your face whilst you gave feedback. Our group also loved the relaxed atmosphere as they chilled in the cinema room and enjoyed the massive beanbags in the main gig space. Thanks Collabor8 we had such a good time… well done!
