After Effects Workshop with James Stevens

 

Today WYDSC_0229C welcomed Visual Artist James Stevens who gave a talk about live visuals and delivered a workshop in After Effects. James talked to us about his art practice and his influences and the avenues of work he has been undertaking since  graduating from Manchester School of Art. Currently working for Warehouse project and creating visuals for Manchester arts events, we had a discussion around live visuals which are usually associated with club culture and what their place is as art in a gallery context. Very interesting!

DSC_0231In the workshop we used images from the Whitworth Collections to create moving imagery on After Effects, this involved manipulating the digital objects and blending layers together. We were amazed with the results, the final cuts will form part of our visuals at the Sing City Writes event at Band on the Wall. Check out a sneaky peek in the video below…
