Sarah Lucas Orbs. Womens Group. Trinity House

wpid-imag0044.jpgWe looked at contemporary wall paper from Timourous Beasties that on first look appears to be quite traditional wallpaper but on closer inspection depicts scenes from contemporary London with the Gherkin, homeless people, muggings, bmx bikes and street signs. We focused on the Sarah Lucas piece ‘Tits in Space’which has been made into wallpaper and will be plastered over an entire space as part of the opening exhibition programme for the Whitworth Art Gallery in October. We used Lino and Block printing techniques to create our own version of the orbs in Lucas’ work. The women picked a word, symbol or image that represented what was to them an important issue for young women living in Manchester today.
